Those who think being a homemaker is an easy job ought to think twice.
I earned myself some degrees while at home.A MSc-Mother of Some Children,a Phd-Passed with High Difficulty, and am on the verge of completing another one. This one's called MM -Maid Management.
I had a tough time with my maids.
A procession of maids wormed their way in and out of our house.
As soon as one got settled she decided to leave.I seriously attributed this trend to some sort of inducement offered to them by our envious neighbours.
I must have had more than a dozen of these scheming women these last few years .They came in all shapes and sizes. The work profile of the extremely round ones was viewed with suspicion while the truly emaciated ones won my sympathy.
After one long look at our spacious house and an uninvited entry into our bedrooms, she would declare her price, always seemingly higher than the neighbourhood flats which were "smaller".
She was shooed away in no time.
Others were out more than in.The selected candidates went through a "rigorous" training period lasting several days, bringing out their true colours. A quick decision had to be made while I waited breathlessly for a "Yes" or a "No".
I had some good ones who applied for" sick leave" shortly after they joined.Leaving me fretting and fuming .
Some asked me for a" housing loan" just a few days into their newfound job.Strange women!
A recently employed woman came to work one fine day in a nightie!
She took time off from doing her dishes to answer a call on her mobile phone she carried everywhere.I had no option but to show her the door when her call lingered for more than the stipulated time.
One elderly woman signed up one morning. I took her in and she started work with immediate effect. She did a neat job for days. then began her demands for 'loncha'..(pickles) to go along with her chappatis she ate at her place. Some days later she demanded that she be allowed to make her morning 'potty' in our tiny indian toilet, instead of the public toilet she went to regularly at her chawl. She was dismissed from service days later!
I was driven up the wall at this endless queue of maids out more than into our flat, to our neighbours' intense amusement and speculation.
I felt all eyes on me as I went on my daily walks around the building.Soaked in self pity and angry at everyone I grumbled to God,"Why?"
Quick came the reply,"The problem is with you."
I realised being dominating and prefectionistic is not getting me anywhere.
I tried changing my ways .
I now have this wonderful woman I always wanted to have.
As for my degree, I'm getting my MM certificate pretty soon.
All the best for the certificate :P
