If I ever happened to be on an interviewing board? What sort of a candidate would I choose?
The guy with the most IQ, the gal most verbatose... or even him with the highest EQ?
In fact none.
I'd simply glance through his or her resume. Pages and pages of listed achievements.
Lift then my gaze at him or her. Watch the super confident demeanour. That laid back smugness..the super coolness. Tinged with arrogance. That unhidden pride in graduating from the topmost university
with best grades.
I' d simply hand back his stuff back to him, shake his hands with a smile. Wave the flummoxed guy to the door.
The next gal boasts of her out of the world EQ. She rambles on and on about having the best credentials for the top HR job. I can't even look down at her resume. One talkative person indeed.
Show her the door in double quick time.
Then look back at the person sitting in front of me..fidgeting nervously with the hands. Sweating profusely.
I look into his resume. No listed achievements. Average IQ. Nonexistent EQ.
I wonder how he got in here in the first place.
Then he looks up and begins. Sharing his life. His aims and ambitions. With that straightforward, honest face he captivates me. On further probing he recounts his encounter with the Almighty.
I listen enraptured. I go into a trance. As he goes onto the tiniest details of how his life changed. Hopes and aspirations too. A distinct aura about him. That glow that comes from purity within. A child like simplicity and innocence coupled with enthusiasm endeavouring to reach great heights. In all honesty and uprightness. No two ways about him.
I sit transfixed. Staring at him. He finishes. I'm speechless.
Finally I would rise up. Walk up to him. Shake his hands vigorously. Give him my best smile. And say...
"You're hired, man."
And watch as his face breaks into that awesome smile, lighting up his sharp features and profusely thanking me walk up to the door and turn the knob. Am sure he breaks into a jig thereafter.
For neither IQ nor EQ matters really.
Only the guy's SQ.
Spiritual quotient.
That takes care of other aspects as well. The spiritual man is intelligent as well and he would relate to his fellow men too. Honest and energetic..selfless and humble...
Won't he be an asset to the company?
What do you guys think?
Do you think you stand a chance if I ever interviewed you?
